Looks Like Paper Folding

I found this strange and beautiful flower in the garden. I think it was part of a wildflower mix that my Mom planted in the spring. For some reason I think it is called a "paper flower." Does anyone know?

Bountiful Harvest

I've been wondering around my yard and picking things to eat: Raspberries, snap peas, shell peas,broccoli...and today I picked my first squash of the season. I'm not a big veggie lover, but I do like veggies fresh from the garden. The peas from the pod taste like candy, they are so sweet.

When I checked my broccoli plants the other day, they were looking beautiful! I could almost taste the yummy, fresh broccoli.

When I checked on them today...not so beautiful. Some creature had a very yummy salad straight out of my garden.

I saved 3 of them and I'm planting more. This time, I'm planting them inside the fenced-in garden area.

I think my peas are safe. They are in the secured area.

Room for Growth

We had a huge tree taken down yesterday. It was very tall and on really windy days it seemed precarious above the power lines. With other trees around I didn't think it would reveal enough sunny ground for garden next year, but now I'm beginning to wonder. I would love to plant a veggie garden in the spring and maybe now I can.

The Rebel Gardener

Against the advice of the local nursery, I planted broccoli plants today. They told me not to plant before the last frost date of May 21. I think that's way too late and I'm really hoping to harvest some fresh veggies before I move. In order to protect my plants from the deer that visit in the dark of night, I installed a Scarecrow Motion-Activated Sprinkler. They cost $60 - $80 but this is the third year I'm using it and it still works great! When a deer walks in front of it they get sprayed with a jet of water. If you look in the lower right of this picture, you will see the Scarecrow.
